Program Summary
Members of a SEED seminar gain new insights into how the world works and how they can make their institutions more inclusive and fair. Participants explore their own understanding and education in relation to race, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual identity, disabilities and age. SEED groups grow together. This growth and development are used to create a more equitable environment for all. A SEED cohort seeks to improve UAMS to make it fair and equitable. SEED cohorts help participants reflect upon and connect their individual experiences to the wider systemic context. Facilitators of SEED cohort do not lecture. Instead, they lead their colleagues in experiential, interactive exercises and discussions often stimulated by monthly films and readings. The seminars deepen participants’ understanding of themselves, expand their knowledge of the world, and point the way to making UAMS more inclusive.
