Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPha)

About the Organization

The Student National Pharmaceutical Association is an educational service association of pharmacy students, who are concerned about and committed to the profession of pharmacy, healthcare issues, and the poor minority representation in these areas. The purpose of SNPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute programs geared toward the development of the health, educational, and social environment of minority communities.

The impact of having a SNPhA Chapter on campus is limitless! With the variety of resources, guides, and support from other chapters, region facilitators, and other members of the national board – SNPhA’s impact on our institution and the surrounding communities can make a massive difference in the trajectory of future healthcare professionals!

To achieve these goals, our organization objectives include but are not limited to: Educating communities on better health practices and to increase their awareness and understanding of diseases.

Offering student members the opportunity to develop leadership and professional skills. Promoting active participation amongst students in national healthcare issues. Developing the role of the minority health professional as a vital member of the healthcare team.

Presidential Message for the 2023-2024 Academic Year

I stand with a sense of purpose and determination, driven by the belief that as future pharmacists and healthcare leaders, we have the power to redefine what it means to be underserved. As the President of SNPhA, I am honored to address you all and share my vision for the future, where no individual is left without access to quality healthcare and the opportunities for a better life.

Our organization has always been at the forefront of advocating for those who are marginalized and lack healthcare resources. Yet, I believe it is time for us to take our commitment to the underserved to new heights. We must move beyond viewing the underserved solely through a lens of lack or deficiency, and instead focus on their potential, resilience, and the unique contributions they can make to our society.

Redefining the underserved starts with understanding the root causes of disparities in healthcare and access. It means acknowledging that these issues are complex, deeply intertwined with social determinants of health, and often perpetuated by systemic inequalities. It also means embracing one’s own experiences in life and capitalizing on those learned skills and lessons for the betterment of a patient population. As SNPhA members, we are not just observers of these challenges; we are agents of change who can address these issues head-on. I propose that we work collectively to redefine the underserved by empowerment through education, collaborative outreach, the incorporation of cultural competence and sensitivity, advocacy for policy change, mentorship and role models, and innovative solutions.

As SNPhA President, I am dedicated to leading us toward a future where healthcare disparities are a thing of the past, and where every person has the opportunity to lead a healthy, fulfilling life. I am excited to work hand in hand with so many students and healthcare leaders to create lasting change.

Warmest regards, Chelsea Flowers, ‘25
