About the Program
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences aims to bridge the gap between UAMS and historically black colleges and universities in Arkansas. The Historically Black Colleges and Universities Med Track Program serves as an initiative and a conduit to prepare undergraduates (and gap year graduates) at historically black colleges and universities to become competitive candidates for health care-related professional programs, such as medicine, pharmacy, health professions, etc. The participating institutions are Philander Smith College and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Our program also features a Health Science Center at each participating campus, which includes high stakes materials, such as test prep books for standardized exams (MCAT, PCAT, ATI TEAS, etc.), flashcard decks, desktop computers, and conference meeting technology available for students in the HBCU Med Track Program. Students can receive career advisement, which includes but not limited to assistance with applications, personal statements, interview preparation, and professional development.
Program Component
The Historically Black Colleges and Universities Med Track Program is year-round. Students can schedule an advisement session with the education coordinator or visit one of the Health Science Centers during business hours, which are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please email HBCUmedtrack@uams.edu to connect with the education coordinator.
